Quaint, cozy and quite literally a room, The Yoga Room is a charming yoga studio in Cape Town.
Situated in Vredehoek on the corner of Derry and Exner Streets, The Yoga Room is quite unassuming and can be easily missed if you aren’t familiar with the area. I must admit, I drove passed the studio a few times before I decided to park and find it on foot. But once you walk onto its stoep, you’ll never miss it again.
With only 80 sqm of studio space, there isn’t much room for changing. And while there are 2 comfortable change rooms I do recommend arriving at the studio already dressed and ready to hit your mat.
It may be compact, but The Yoga Room is an incredibly comforting space! I attended the Friday evening Yin & Tonic class as well as the Saturday morning Open Level class, and both teachers Elsa and Elaine were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. The studio is quite new to Cape Town and there aren’t many students who practice there yet. Which was fantastic for me because it pretty much meant individual and personal attention from both ladies.
I absolutely loved how Elaine may have prepared for her Saturday Open Level class but when we arrived she was willing to toss out the sequence and cater to what we wanted and needed. Thanks Elaine for helping correct my overlying flexible arms! I don’t think they ever would’ve received that kind of attention in a class with 15 other yogis. It may be compact, but The Yoga Room is a comforting space! Click To Tweet
The Friday evening Yin & Tonic class was the perfect way to wrap up the work-week. The class begins with a restorative Yin yoga style, but in the last 15 minutes picks up with a Vinyasa flow to stir up some energy for the weekend.
Other classes include a Basics for beginners, Mom and Baby Yoga to help new moms recover from childbirth and bond with their babies (yes, your baby is part of the class), as well as a Gentle yoga class for older practitioners or anyone in recovery looking for something slower and more gentle. I haven’t yet found a yoga studio in Cape Town like The Yoga Room, which is able to offer personalized attention at such an affordable rate. I highly recommend everyone drops in and tries The Yoga Room.
