A new, and free, seven-day yoga challenge, focusing on the chakra system – it’s the Journey Junkie Chakra Challenge.
I’ve been meaning to post about this challenge for a while now. I think I’ve been delaying it because I haven’t quite made up my mind as to how I feel about it. While I enjoyed the physical practice of the asanas, Allie’s Chakra Challenge took me on a bit of a woo-woo journey through my own chakras.
Yoga is more than moving through the physical asanas. In total, there are eight limbs of yoga. And Allie touched on a few of them through her challenge.
The seven-day Chakra Challenge was more than I expected. Allie goes into quite a lot of detail, demystifying the chakra system not only in her free YouTube videos, but also in the daily emails and accompanying blog posts. She breaks each chakra down and explains how we can not only tap into them but also use them to our benefit.
What are chakras?
There are seven chakras within the body, and they are best described as energy centres. They are constantly spinning and can spin out of alignment. All seven need to be aligned within the body as well as aligned with each other.
Through their energy, it is believed that the chakras are connected to all your major organs and parts of your body as well as your blood and lymphatic system. Some believe if your chakras are blocked, it could lead to illness and discomfort, which is why quite a big focus is placed on making sure the chakras are not out of balance.Yoga is more than moving through the physical asanas. If you’re keen to learn more about chakras, then I highly recommend this seven-day challenge. It wasn’t quite the transformative journey it was marketed as, but it definitely was interesting and I learned a lot about chakras.
Allie credits quite a lot of her knowledge about the chakra system to Anodea Judith’s The Wheels of Life, as she studied it to put together this challenge and yoga series. If you’re interested and want to learn more about chakras, then try Judith’s other books Eastern Body, Western Mind and Anodea Judith’s Chakra Yoga. While trying to find those books I stumbled upon the absolutely beautiful rainbow chakra towel that can be used on your yoga mat! It’s definitely going on my wish list.
